John or “JC” is one of the most experienced Water Polo Coaches in Canada having coached for 35 years at almost every different level from Bantam to Senior in a variety of different programs including recreational, competitive, Team B.C., collegiate level and senior levels.  John’s love of the sport stems from his own 10 years playing the game for both the Coquitlam Lions and Simon Fraser University which culminated in him going to Sr. Men’s Nationals in 1974 and 1975.   He has gone on to obtain his Level 3 NCCP Coaching Certification and is one of the few Course Conductors in B.C. qualified to certify coaches.  He is the recipient of the Builder Award B.C. and Water Polo Canada’s Volunteer of the Year Award.

As his “day job”, John is a professor at Simon Fraser University, in the position of Faculty of Education Associate for the PDP Program and has a Masters Degree in Education from SFU.  His passion for education is evident by his dedication and support offered to deserving Pacific Storm athletes in assisting them reach their goals of playing at post-secondary institutions both in Canada and the U.S.   John believes B.C. has the potential to grow into a centre for excellence in North American water polo provided a long term vision is conceived coupled with the political will to make it happen.  He is committed to supporting our athletes in their quests for university play, becoming national team members and creating future leaders for B.C.’s water polo community.

On a personal note, John is married to Barbara and has two daughters, Sara (27) and Britta (23).  He can be seen cruising around town in his little red convertible and enjoys a fine wine.
